About Me

Hello! My name is Mariana Garcia and I am a mentor teacher with eight years of classroom experience teaching both 2nd and 6th grade. I earned my Master’s in Education from California State University, Long Beach, and I now support teachers as they continue to grow in their practice by helping good teachers become great teachers so all students can thrive.I grew up in Huntington Park, which continues to shape my commitment to building strong, inclusive school communities where every student feels seen and valued. Outside of school, I enjoy traveling, going to concerts, and making new connections with people and students.

My work focuses especially on math instruction using Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI). This approach centers on understanding how students think about math and using their ideas to guide teaching. I work closely with teachers to build strong problem-solving skills in students, encourage them to explain their thinking, and deepen their understanding of math. This year, I’ve especially enjoyed the continued learning that comes with serving as a mentor teacher and working alongside incredible teachers at LRA. I see every collaboration as an opportunity for us to learn together and strengthen instruction for students.

I partner with teachers to create lessons that are engaging, meaningful, and accessible for every learner. I also care deeply about building classrooms where students feel included, respected, and confident sharing their ideas.  I believe every child can be a strong learner and thinker. My goal is to support teachers in creating classrooms where students feel valued, supported, and excited to learn every day.
