About Me!
My name is Maria Alcaraz, and I’ve proudly served as an educator since 2002. Growing up in Huntington Park, it means a great deal to me to give back to the same community that helped shape who I am today. I am a National Board Teacher and was Teacher of the Year
I began my teaching journey at Miles Avenue Elementary and later had the unique opportunity to help bring Lucille Roybal-Allard Elementary to life as part of its founding team—where I continue to teach and serve today. Over the years, I’ve worked with students in 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 6th grades, gaining a deep appreciation for the different stages of learning and growth.
In my current role as an Intervention Coordinator, I support students across all grade levels, helping them build confidence and skills in both math and language arts. One of the most exciting parts of my work is teaching and co-teaching computer science. Seeing students light up with curiosity and enthusiasm as they explore new concepts is incredibly rewarding, and I feel fortunate to be part of that journey every day.
